Schroon Lake Ski Center

The Schroon Lake Ski Center is located in the Village of Schroon Lake, New York. Like Dynamite Hill in Chestertown, the Schroon Lake Ski Center is basically for beginners/intermediate skiers and it’s absolutely free New York skiing!
The ski hill reopened in 2005 after a long break from operating during 1970's/1980's.
There is just one slope, with a rope tow, and the hill is about 800 feet long with a drop of 150’ (… vs Dynamite Hill with a 65’ drop). It takes a couple of minutes to get to the top and just seconds going down. But the hill can be great fun and is slightly more challenging than Dynamite Hill. So if you have kids (or adults) just beginning, I’d suggest you try the Schroon Lake Ski Center second. But do try it by the end of your weekend as it’s a good stepping stone for beginners. Hey … and it’s free skiing in the Adirondacks! There is a good view of Schroon Lake and Pharoah Moutain from the top.
The ski Center is generally open weekends, holidays, and school vacations (… if there is enough snow, which there usually is).At the bottom there is a very small wooden warming hut (garage actually) that has some benches and a heater for changing and getting warm. I think they want to build a better small lodge in the future. There is also a port-a-john at the site. (… Word is that the rope tow was donated or partially paid for by Gore Mountain). Directions: - Coming from the south, take I-87 and get of at exit 27. At the end of the ramp take a right and a quick left onto Route 9 north. (note: If you are coming from Loon Lake, there is no need to take I-87. Just stay on Route 9 north.)
- Drive just a few miles until you arrive at the Village of Schroon Lake. Turn left on Hoffman Road. There is a sign for the Schroon Lake Municipal Golf Course on the corner.
- From there the golf course and Ski Center are immediately on the left.
- The ski slope is located at the Schroon Lake Municipal Golf Course on Hoffman Road. You actually drive into the golf course parking area and take a left onto a one lane driveway that leads to the ski area. It’s about ¼ mile from there and parking is available at the base of the slope.
