Adirondack Rustic Furniture Fair

You absolutely do not want the miss the Adirondack Rustic Furniture Fair if you are an admirer of all types of rustic furniture (… including Adirondack furniture rustic designs). The Adirondack Rustic Furniture Fair is held at the Adirondack Museum in the Town of Blue Mountain Lake. The event is normally held on the second weekend of September. But make sure you call ahead or check our Adirondack events calendar to be sure. There have been years when it was not held on the second weekend (…2009 for example, when it was held on the first weekend).
The event is recognized as “the premier rustic show” in the USA (… featuring items that designers, collectors, and fans from around the world search for). The Adirondack Rustic Furniture Fair includes furniture makers from around the USA and Canada (… and many are from the Adirondack Mountains too!). The event features rustic furniture, furnishings, and eye-catching art.
A panel of Adirondack Museum staff selects the best rustic furniture makers from established criteria to show their creations each year. Only about 50 (… or so) are invited to participate at the fair (… the best of the best!). I think this is because space is somewhat limited for exhibits at the Adirondack Museum (… although the grounds are spacious and beautiful). Rustic design styles include contemporary and traditional pieces. The participants set up tents all around the museum's beautiful ponds and buildings. On display are some of the world’s most remarkable elegant rustic furniture creations (… they are truly works of art!). It is incredible to see the different interpretations of all types of rustic furniture by these outstanding craftspeople. You won’t see mass produced pieces at the fair. They are all unique and original. It is obvious that the artisans are passionate about their handcrafted work and the tradition it stands for. Some of the artisans show their skills and techniques right there at the Rustic Furniture Fair as they demonstrate their talents in furniture making, wood carving and painting right in front of you.
The Friday preceding the two day event, the museum holds the annual “Rustic Fair Preview Benefit”. This is an exceptional chance to meet the rustic artisans and be the first to shop for that perfect unique item for your home or camp. The museum is closed to the public that day in order to hold the event (… if I remember correctly, tickets to the preview are pretty expensive though. So be prepared). Another amazing thing about this two day event is how it has grown over the years. The limited number of participants at the “official” event doesn’t stop hundreds of superb artisans from setting up shop at the Street Fair and Rustic Exposition in the small hamlet of Blue Mountain Lake, just a mile or so from the Adirondack Museum.
Artisans come from far away to show off their Adirondack Rustic designs (… but down expect to walk away with those folding Adirondack chair plans, etc. etc. ... that's a secret!). At the exposition you can expect to see other splendid rustic furniture items, plus much more (… anything from the unfinished raw materials to create your own rustic furniture, to deer head mounts, to sculptured wood creations, to that Adirondack folding chair you always wanted). Below are just some of the items you can expect to find at the Adirondack Rustic Furniture Fair or at the craft shows and craft stores in the Town of Blue Mountain Lake during this event.
Variety of Chairs: - Unfinished Adirondack chairs
- Mahogany Adirondack chair
- Many other unique chairs - too numerous and too many interpretations to mention (… you have to see them to believe them!)
Dining Furniture – Living Room Furniture - Bedroom Furniture:
 - Antique Adirondack furniture
Adirondack Art Gallery:
- Adirondack mountain photographs
Rustic Outdoor Furniture:
 - Adirondack twig furniture
- Adirondack deck furniture
Deer Antlers Adirondack Decor: ... And much much more ! ! ! The artistic interpretations of rustic furniture at this event are endless. Just when you think you’ve seen it all, you will come across yet another truly unique piece of art and craftsmanship (... yes, that deer to the right is really made out of deer antlers!). I normally concentrate on highlighting events around the Loon Lake, Schroon Lake, and Lake George area (close to our vacation home). But I couldn’t resist listing the Adirondack Rustic Furniture Fair as it is truly a “celebration of American craftsmanship”. Attending this event will make you feel a special closeness with Adirondack life. And it is certainly worth a special Adirondack day trip no matter where you are located while you are on your Adirondack mountain vacation.
