Once Upon A Moose Cafe

Matter of fact, you can stay right there at the Moose Cafe if you are looking for a place to stay because the restaurant is part of the Wells House Hotel (… more on the hotel in a minute).

The café is fairly new to the area. It opened up when the “old” Wells house was sold to new owners and the entire building was renovated.

The atmosphere is casual. The dining area is clean, rustic and decorated in a quaint Adirondack setting. There are many Adirondack style decorations locate throughout the Moose Cafe which adds to the mood.

There is an old fireplace right in the dining area which makes for warm and comfortable dining (…converted to a gas fireplace when renovated). There is a nice bar with a complete selection of wines, spirits, and beers.

The dinner menu has a variety of choices including entrees with lobster, steak, chicken, spareribs, fettuccine, salmon, and tuna. Burgers, sandwiches, salads, thin-crust pizzas, and daily specials are also available. The lunch menu includes burgers and sandwiches as well as some of the same entrees as dinner time.

As I mentioned, the restaurant is located in the recently renovated Wells House Hotel, an historic country inn. There are actually two restaurants in the Wells House. The other one is called “Country” and offers a fine dining experience.

The hotel has ten guest rooms. We never stayed there because our chalet is only five miles away but the owner let us check out the rooms. They are charming, all newly and uniquely decorated with private baths.

I recommend that you give the Moose Cafe a try. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed!

Directions: Traveling NORTH on I-87

• Adirondack Northway (I-87), take Exit 26 (Pottersville/Minerva).

• At the end of the ramp, take a left. Then at the intersection at Route 9, take a right.

• After about a quarter mile (or less), the Wells House will be directly in front of you, on the triangle intersection of Route 9 and Olmstedville Road.

Directions: Traveling SOUTH on I-87:

• Adirondack Northway (I-87), take Exit 26 - Pottersville/Minerva.

• At the end of the ramp take a left. Soon you’ll intersect with Route 9, take a right.

• After a short distance you’ll go under the I-87 over pass. The Wells House will be in site on your right at the triangle intersection of Route 9 and Olmstedville Road.

Directions: From Loon Lake:

• Just take Route 9 north for 5 miles.

• The Wells House will be directly in front of you, on the triangle intersection of Route 9 and Olmstedville Road.
