Hudson Headwaters
Care for Kids 5K run
The Hudson Headwaters – Care for Kids 5K run is a 3.1 mile race from the Schroon River to Suzie Q’s Sunshine Café (...1 mile off exit 25 of the Adirondack Northway, I-87).
Normally the race is held on the first Sunday of August each year. But check out my Adirondack events calendar for the specific date. You can usually register the day before from 1pm to 4pm at Suzie Qs or the morning of the race from 7:30 to 8:45am at R&R Auto Rebuilders. Runners can park at or near Suzie Q’s and ride the free shuttle to the start of the race. The race begins at R&R Auto Rebuilders (Schroon River Road, Chestertown, NY) and ends at Suzie Q’s Sunshine Café (148 Tannery Road, Brant Lake, NY). The course is mostly flat with a slight uphill portion. You can pick up a map of the course on race day.
A high quality tee shirt is included with the entry fee for the first few hundred registrants. Proceeds benefit pediatric health care at Hudson Headwaters Health Network health centers. Awards are given to the top male and female finishers overall, and for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place finishers in 5 year age groups (… and wheelchair too!). I haven’t been to this race yet but I assume they have refreshments after the race. If not, I highly recommend you eat breakfast (… or lunch or dinner for that matter) at Suzie Q’s. The meals are delicious and the atmosphere is great! … And if you are addicted to running or racing this will be your second race of the weekend! … Because normally the day before is the “race the Train” run from nearby North Creek to Riparious!
