Hearthstone Point

Hearthstone Point is a sentimental favorite camping spot for me. This campground was my first Adirondack camping experience. My parents would take us camping for a week (… sometimes two!) each summer. It was such a fun time! The memories are ever lasting and I’m sure they will be for you and your family too.
Hearthstone has been in existence since 1927. It is situated on 98 acres and currently has 251 wooded tent, trailer and RV sites (… which include a fire ring and picnic table). Facilities include hot showers, flush toilets, trailer dump station, and a recycling center. It also has a play area for the kids and a nice sandy beach with a swimming area along scenic Lake George. The lake view and views of the Adirondack mountains are absolutely gorgeous! The campground is well kept and clean. There are lots of trees. It seems that the shade is just the right amount to let some sun in during the day to dry things but also cool and comfortable on those hot summer days. Pets are allowed with proof of vaccination.
A Junior Naturalist Program is offered at Hearthstone. This is a program for children ages 5 to 12. Each child will receive a Junior Naturalist Journal full of individual and family activities. The journal must be completed at the campground and each child will be presented with an embroidered patch for their efforts. There is also a Nature Recreation Program at the campground from early July through Labor Day. This includes organized environmentally based education programs and activities such as hikes, crafts, games and live entertainment.
There are plenty of things to see and do in and around Lake George (… or you can just relax at your camp site or on the beach!). The campground is positioned on the west shore of Lake George in the southern end of the lake. The lake is 32 miles long and 3 miles wide at its widest point. It is a deep lake with a maximum depth of 190 feet. The Lake George region offers some of the most varied recreation opportunities in New York State. All types of watercraft permitted on Lake George. Hearthstone does not have a boat launch but there are places to launch your boat nearby. The lake is great for fishing with lots of lake trout, rainbow trout, landlocked salmon, small-mouth bass, large-mouth bass, northern pike, and a variety of pan fish If you like hiking, there is a hiking trail that runs throughout the campground and wooded west of the campground. There are also countless hiking trails and mountains in the surrounding area (... here are a few. I will be adding to this list regularly) . For mountain climbers the Adirondack high peaks region is within reasonable driving distance.
If you are into biking, the area has a lot to offer. There is a scenic bike path from the park in Lake George Village to the Glens falls area. Lake George Village is just 2 miles from Hearthstone Point. Shoppers will enjoy the quaint Adirondack gift shops in and around the village, and there are outlet malls close by. There are plenty of restaurants, theme parks (… including the Great Escape!), boat rentals, boat cruises, theatres, and historic sites in the area. There is also horseback riding, white-water rafting, golfing and even a rodeo nearby (… and more, as I’m sure I missed something!).
